This was truly a labour of love.
The chocolate teddy bears were prepared one evening days ahead. Without a commercial oven, and with only one cake tin of the shape and size I needed, the five cakes had to be baked one at a time. It took an entire Thursday to finish baking and trimming to shape.
Saturday afternoon was spent whipping and spreading the filling, stacking the layers, covering with buttercream and fondant, and putting in all the finer decorating touches. Cousin ML, who came to give me a hand, had the important role of dotting the teddies’ eyes, bringing them to life.
All the effort was well worth our while as it was for Cousin E (Cousin ML’s brother) and Cousin-in-law A’s first-born’s first-month birthday on 9 Sep 2012.
Yes, he’s a local National Day baby!
